Modern Chic Apartment

A new build apartment within an Art Deco inspired building, with two bedrooms (both en-suite), hall and an open plan kitchen-dining-living space leading to a balcony terrace.

The young bachelor owner of this property worked in the music industry and wanted somewhere cool and comfortable to come home to after busy days at work and evenings out with clients. Originally a soulless white space, the apartment had to feel vibrant and welcoming, somewhere our client could relax, and entertain friends, mix cocktails in the kitchen and hang out on the huge wraparound balcony, which overlooks a woodland conservation area.

The original layout and fixtures remained the same, so the aim was to transform the space aesthetically with a look that was ‘industrial chic with a polished edge’. To achieve this a dark luxe palette of rich chocolate browns, smoky greys and soft caramel shades with accents of zingy burnt orange and teal was selected. Huge floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors in the living area allow natural light to flood in, so the room is bright enough to flatter the dark tones.

In the living area the walls were clad in a suede-like textured wall-covering and teamed with a low slung sofa in a similar smoky taupe tone for a laid-back feel. Sleek dark walnut cabinetry and a chocolate brown wool rug balance the lighter tones, while burnt orange and copper accessories inject energy and warmth.

At the opposite end of the room, a stylish round dining table and dark leather chairs provides the perfect bridge between the white kitchen and the richly toned seating area. Industrial-style brass lighting brings character and a cool edge to the space.

Further textured wall-coverings were introduced in the hallway; this time a luxurious ‘mock croc’, which was combined with a brass and polished wood console, an elegant mirror and masculine graphite Buster and Punch pendants creating a warm, sophisticated welcome.

The master bedroom also benefits from ample natural light, so here the walls were clad in a rich teal blue textured covering, complemented with taupe upholstery and heavy drapes in a mix of luxurious fabrics, and simple elegant lighting.

A similar style follows in the guest room, with a softer, paler palette. The addition of bespoke cabinetry by HUX London in both bedrooms and bathrooms provides generous storage space.

The result is a cool and comfortable modern space with warmth and character.
