A Victorian terraced townhouse set over 4 storeys, remodelled to create a contemporary home for a growing family.
The clients wanted their home to work more effectively for their family and storage was key. Happy to increase the size of the basement to include a utility and wine storage, they wanted to maximise the floorplan to include a pod with an extra bedroom.
This residential project was featured in Ideal Home‘s May 2023 issue. Read the full story here.
In terms of design style, we were briefed by the owners of this property to create a contemporary, urban design, with features such as antique mirrors and jewel like teal blue tones in the joinery, to add a glamorous touch.
Throughout, the property now features a modern, classic palette of deep blues and pale neutrals, combined with pops of bright colour and gold finishes.
Our design team completely reconfigured the ground floor to include a spacious rear extension, complete with a kitchen / family room, powder room, and a formal dining and living room. Bespoke kitchen and joinery throughout the house were made by HUX London. We created a side infill extension providing the extra space to make this possible.
The kitchen is designed with storage space as a priority, so includes a full wall of dark green cabinetry, as well as a large central island complete with waterfall marble top. Light floods the kitchen and dining area on the ground floor through 5 large Velux roof lights, with task lighting provided through pendants such as the Tom Dixon light above the island.
Opposite, the dining area has a more relaxed aesthetic with a natural wood table and bench seating. A gallery wall, oversized chalk board and quirky, mis-matching pendants complete the scheme.
The family bathroom is a real statement room in the property, with a large brass bathtub taking centre stage from BC Designs. Floor to ceiling emerald marble tiles from Fired Earth compliment the gold tones and black hardware adding a bold finishing touch.
Beneath the ground floor, the basement includes a utility and wine cellar. The rear pod extension allowed for an extra bedroom on the first floor, which was redesigned to incorporate a master bedroom, with ensuite and dressing room.
A similar rich colour palette and soft, comforting textures have been used in the guest bedroom, whilst the final bedroom is designed playfully for the client’s young child, complete with a map of the world mural wallpaper and a variety of primary colours to inspire.
