A double-fronted Victorian villa in Chiswick, west London, with a hallway leading to a formal sitting room and play room to the front, and a generous kitchen-diner-family room and snug at the rear. The top floor has four bedrooms (three en-suite) and a dressing room for the master suite.
The owners of this west London property wanted to transform their home into a large live/play space for the whole family – which includes two sporty teenage children and their friends – to enjoy. The challenge was to reconfigure the large lateral space into well-proportioned adjoining rooms to maximise the functionally of the house.
Our design and build team designed a full-width rear extension and double-height elevation to house a first floor master suite to maximise the potential of the property.
On the ground floor, the new proportions allowed the rear of the property to accommodate a huge kitchen, dining area and informal living space, with two huge sets of floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to the garden and a long contemporary skylight zoning the areas.
In the light and airy kitchen, rich oak timber flooring is offset by muted two-tone grey matt lacquer cabinetry and a two-tiered stainless-steel shark-nosed island and white quartz breakfast bar at a 90 degree angle, designed by kitchen specialists HUX London.
A teal blue leather banquette dotted with quirky carpet cushions, a striking table, industrial-style pendants and splashy artworks bring a cool diner-like vibe to the dining area.
This relaxed and fun feel is carried through to the informal living zone with colourful seating and linear furniture.
The formal sitting room at the front of the house retains its period features and is enlivened with a fresh and refined scheme which includes two peacock blue sofas, a stunning Kelly Wearstler rug and a fabulous feathery pendant light.
A beautiful patchwork of patterned muted blue and earthy toned porcelain tiles runs through the hallway connecting the front and rear parts of the house.
Two bespoke roof lights flank the external walls of the first floor extension, providing a line of sight up the reclaimed brick wall from the ground floor open living space. In the master bedroom, the walls are washed in a soft grey against which rich natural materials, sumptuous textures and dark neutral hues stand out.
