Settling here from overseas, the owners of this house in Primrose Hill chose the area for its quintessentially English architecture and bohemian feel. They loved the property’s original features and wanted their new home to be light and spacious, with plenty of storage and an eclectic British feel. As self-confessed ‘culture vultures’, the couple’s art collection formed the basis of their home’s colour palette.
Originally set over four-storeys, the property was tall and narrow with boxy rooms, which made it feel dark and poky. Our build team removed dividing walls throughout and created a fifth floor in the loft. The ceiling height was increased to create a bright, open family kitchen-diner, which leads to a courtyard garden.
Custom-made cabinetry designed by HUX London sits within an alcove housing children’s books, toys and a TV, while further storage is concealed beneath a smart upholstered banquette.
There’s a fresh, energetic palette, with aqua-blue and white kitchen cabinetry complemented by fashionable ice cream shades in the dining area. A colourful bespoke rug by Jennifer Manners and contemporary artwork by Laura Jordan provide the finishing touches.
On the ground floor a zingy tangerine corner sofa and yellow occasional chair give this dual-aspect room a vibrant and welcoming feel.
There is stylish storage in the chimney alcoves and a study area and music room, which can be closed off with a discreet pocket door.
The grandest part of the house, the first floor, with tall sash windows, this floor now has an elegant double-drawing room, and a beautiful roof terrace.
The pale backdrop is enlivened with sumptuous green velvet sofas from George Smith, eau de nil occasional chairs by Brabbu and intricate Persian rugs.
In the master suite on the second floor, a corridor of stylish soft pink panelling conceals floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and leads to a stunning antique mirrored doorway, behind which is a generous marble-clad en-suite bathroom.
On the third floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom were located in the loft space.
Pretty pink wall coverings, custom cabinetry and timeless furniture result in two charming children’s rooms, while pink chevron tiles, simple white fittings and rose gold brassware are combined in a complementary bathroom scheme.
