Modern Waterside Home, Surrey

A spectacular new build with a master suite, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, kitchen and dining area, sitting room, library and garage.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the music-industry owners of this property had had their previous proposal rejected and felt that permission for their dream home was impossible.

With the primary intent to avoid the house being an imposing structure, our team created a design of frameless glass, hardwood timber cladding and crisp render which not only gained unprecedented approval from the local planning authority, but also responds appropriately to its magnificent location.

On the ground floor, the spectacular double storey entrance with its cantilevered staircase, large roof-light and impressive Roll & Hill pendant creates a wonderful feeling of space and light, core values at the crux of the plan.

The living areas are flooded with natural light via the bespoke floor to ceiling glazing, which achieves an open feel and facilitates views right through the house, creating a seamless connection between the interior living spaces and the surrounding countryside. This easy flow between indoors and outdoors is exactly what the couple wanted not only for the connection with nature but for their summer parties and frequent entertaining.

An intelligent lighting system, dramatic abstract artworks and iconic mid-century design classics, such as Castiglioni’s Arco lamp from Flos, Eames Eiffel chairs and a Saarinen Tulip table ensure the interior is on a par with the architecture.

The first floor, with its fully glazed facade the master suite is set back from the lower floor to provide solar shading. The concept was for a private first floor suite containing an open-plan bedroom, dressing room, en-suite bathroom, lounge area and outdoor terraces where the owners can enjoy the views and sunshine at all times of the day.

This was not only an exceptional piece of architecture, our teams worked tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve a Level 5 Code for Sustainable Homes – an exceptional standard for sustainability and efficiency far beyond the existing build.

The result is a home with a distinctly modern aesthetic that stands out from the crowd, while also blending beautifully with its spectacular natural surroundings.
