Grade II Listed Apartment, Knightsbridge

A split-level apartment within a Victorian mansion block in Chelsea. There are two bedrooms, a family bathroom, the spectacular master suite, kitchen-diner and elegant hallway, leading to a dramatic sitting room.

The owners of this Chelsea pied à terre wanted to honour the property’s beautiful heritage architecture, whilst renovating the interior with a luxurious, modern scheme, creating a sanctuary in the city where they could relax and recharge after enjoying the capital’s restaurants and theatres.

Although, top-quality, the décor hadn’t been touched for decades and looked fussy and old-fashioned. Our design team remodelled the space with a rich, masculine palette, clean lines, bold lighting and exquisite finishes.

:

The original ceiling plasterwork was restored and the geometric design echoed in the beautiful timber parquet flooring below. Huge Critall doors create a dramatic entrance and frame the room, allowing natural light to flow through to the hallway.

:

A muted blue wall-covering sets a calm tone and is complemented by azure armchairs, a pale aqua corner sofa designed by Piero Lissoni and a bronze and glass coffee table. The room’s focal point is an imposing floor-to-ceiling bookcase designed by HUX London. Crafted in Wenge and backlit with LEDs, it houses objet d’art, antiquities and books, making a spectacular style statement. An opulent cloud-like chandelier hangs overhead softening and balancing the scheme.

:

Smart, deep-navy Shaker-style cabinetry lines an entire wall and is contrasted with exquisite antique mirrored back panels and beautiful Carrara marble surfaces in the kitchen. Rich walnut chevron flooring brings warmth to the room

The dining area is zoned with navy buttoned leather banquettes, a bespoke sculptural bronze table and chairs Piero Lissoni by Lema. A contemporary chandelier by Roll & Hill, and artwork by an up and coming contemporary artist, complete this sophisticated scheme.

The master bedroom is both serene and sumptuous, incorporating walk-in wardrobes and a dressing area cleverly situated behind a beautiful bespoke leather headboard with floating bedside cabinets. The bed is flanked by two custom-made bronze and shagreen-clad sideboards, while a glamorous brass and glass chandelier and artworks by US artist Mark Bradford invigorate the calm, neutral palette.

The en-suite bathroom is completely clad with lavish Monte Carlo marble, and reconfigured with an attention-grabbing raised platform bath, a bespoke antique brass twin vanity unit and a double drench shower that leads to a pretty courtyard garden, the spacious master en-suite is pure indulgence.
